Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
